Informal settlement conferences are just that – informal conferences where the parties discuss settlement. Generally, the parties and their attorneys, if any are retained, meet and have relaxed discussions about settling the case. There is no set limit to the number of conferences the parties have in order to reach an agreement. This is a cost-effective process because the attorney is generally hired on a limited engagement basis to attend the conferences and draft the written agreement. Informal settlement conferences are typically favored for parties who are not only amicable towards one another, but also have a relatively small estate and limited financial means to undergo litigation.
